What's The Catch?

When people hear about book clubs, they often believe they're a gimmick, offering quick and easy deals in order to make more money in the long run. It's true that, after receiving your introductory offer, you will most likely have to make some purchases, but it's not nearly as much as many people assume and will cost you much less than you may thing. There is no cost involved with joining a book club and, after agreeing to the terms and conditions, you are free to shop and take advantage of the deals offered through the club.

Like anything you agree to or sign, the terms and conditions of a book club should be read through carefully so that you know what you're getting yourself in to. Though they vary for each book club, most of the time the conditions will state that, after joining the club, a member needs to purchase four books at full-price within the next two years. If you're joining a book club you obviously like reading, so this is not a difficult thing to do. It's likely that you would have bought more than four books at publishers price in two years without the book club, so why not join and take advantage of the other deals available?

Several people are under the misconception that clubs, not only books but DVD, video and music clubs as well, automatically send members merchandise and charge them for it later. The truth is, none of these purchases are mandatory and, if members opt to not receive their monthly selections, they can do so without paying a dime. Every three weeks a book club will send you their club magazine which is filled with new releases as well as new selections. These selections are based off of what the editors at the book club believe would be most interesting to you. To make your life a little easier, they will automatically send the selection to your house if you do not decline it by either sending in a card provided or going on to the Internet, signing into you account and declining your selection offer.

Our book clubs give members plenty of time to decline an offer and, after they do, a book is not sent and no charges are added to their account. There are never any "catches" associated with joining a book club, just misconceptions that leads to the belief that book clubs are in places simply to rip off members, which is entirely untrue. It is the job of a book club to provide the lowest costs, best deals and most popular titles without scamming customers and members.

Because book clubs buy directly from book publishers, they're able to cut out the middle man and offer books as shockingly low prices, which is why people automatically think there's a catch involved with becoming a book club member. If you read your book club agreement and respond to your monthly selections, there should be no problems and you'll only receive the books you want for the prices you're willing to pay.
